Joyride Of Soul will span decades of music from the 1960s to present day showcasing the wide variety of styles within R&B and genres inspired by it. While hit songs are popular for many reasons, the show will not limit itself to chart toppers or traditional length radio songs, as a number one song may be played next to a deep album cut, no matter whether it’s a radio edit or extended 12” mix. The show’s goal is to showcase quality music whether it was created in a basement in Indiana on college students’ tight budget or with the backing of industry money out of New York. The difference between a regional and national hit may have been more influenced by access to promotion dollars or distribution than to the quality of the music or performance, and Joyride Of Soul hopes to erase those boundaries while also providing commentary on how tracks within a given show’s playlist may be related.
