Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi returns to Maui for three-day blood drive, March 17-19

Blood Bank of Hawaiʻi is returning to Maui, giving the community an opportunity to donate blood and save lives. From March 17 to 19, the blood bank will host a three-day drive at the Cameron Center, located at 95 Mahalani Street in Wailuku.

 

Maui Fire Department responds to 58 calls during kona storm

These calls included 32 specifically flooding-related emergencies, five calls for sparking powerlines, five for vehicles stranded due to downed trees, six for boats that had parted their moorings due to the rough ocean conditions, and 10 swift water rescues in which 27 individuals were rescued.

 

Shelters closing today as weather conditions improve

Emergency shelters at Maui High School Gym in Kahului and Hāna High School Cafeteria were closed today, March 16, and remaining shelters in Lahaina and South Maui were set to close at 5 p.m. today, after being opened last week before a prolonged kona storm brought heavy rain, flooding and high wind to Maui County and the rest of the state.

On Maui and Moloka‘i crews are continuing to clear debris and mud from roads; clearing drains and culverts; filling potholes; inspecting roadways; inspecting bridges and culverts; inspecting rock embankments; checking outlet structures and embankments; identifying damaged guardrails; clearing debris from Ukumehame Stream Bridge; removing hazardous trees; troubleshooting traffic signals.
