County of Maui officials encourage preparedness ahead of tropical system
County of Maui officials are encouraging residents and visitors to prepare for severe weather, with the National Weather Service (NWS) forecasting that a tropical depression will strengthen into Tropical Storm Nolo, then a hurricane, as it moves toward the state. A flood watch, which begins at noon today, remains in effect through Saturday for Maui County.
Tropical Storm Nolo forms, Hurricane Watch issued for Hawaiʻi County
Nolo is very slow moving, advancing toward the WNW at 6 mph, with 40 mph sustained winds. A sharp turn to the north and north-northeast is expected on Thursday, with this motion continuing through the end of the week. On the forecast track, the system is expected to approach the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday and Saturday.
